Side Hustler Spotlight: Steph Roff, Founder of Skin Radiance

Meet Steph, Tropic Ambassador and Founder of Skin Radiance

In the first of my side hustler spotlight series I’d like to introduce you to my friend Steph Roff. Steph lives near Evesham in Worcestershire, with her husband David and their two energetic boys. As well as being a mum of two, Steph is a part-time account manager.  Life is full and busy, but she has still found the time to build a business she truly loves.

Steph is the founder of Skin Radiance, her side hustle built to help people discover the joy of great skincare. She is passionate about helping her customers find their ideal skincare routine, one that not only meets their skin goals, but also bring joy to their daily lives. As Steph says, when skincare feels like self-care, consistency becomes easy—and that’s when the magic happens.

Steph’s side hustle journey started during the pandemic when she was looking for a distraction. Back then she was partnered with The Body Shop at Home. It was something to do when her husband was working late and her 3 year old was in bed and she couldn't go anywhere or see anyone due to lockdown. For Steph it was the perfect way to get a little bit of her identity back and not just be ‘Mum’. It was fun, she built great relationships with her team and discovered that she loved helping people.

When The Body Shop at Home closed Steph became an ambassador for Tropic Skincare, a UK-based brand known for their freshly made, naturally sourced products. Five years on she loves building a business that fits around her homelife and work commitments to bring in extra income and to continue to help her customers with their own skincare and self care routines.

When I asked Steph what her favourite thing was about her side hustle she told me that it is helping people. She is also grateful for the confidence it has given her, not just in her side hustle, but also in her day to day life. Notably, she has joined a choir, which she feels that she wouldn’t have had the confidence to do if it wasn’t for her side hustle.

For Steph, managing her time to fit in her side hustle is still a work in progress. On the three days she is in work she tries to dedicate an hour in the evening to her business. On her non-working days, she uses the time when her youngest is napping to squeeze in some more side hustle tasks, as well as trying to enjoy the peace and quiet with a hot cuppa.

Like everyone, no two weeks are the same, so Steph makes sure she plans ahead when she has those weeks when time is more limited. She has a to do list which she refreshes every Monday and a realistic target to tick off three tasks a day, which is working well and helping to reduce the feeling of overwhelm.

Steph’s top time management tips are:

  • Map out your week on a day-to-day view diary or planner to see hour by hour the time you have available. It’s amazing how much time your find during the day when you map it out this way.

  • Don’t forget to schedule in downtime too, which is just as important.

  • Use those small slots, such as when the kettle is boiling, to tick off some five minute tasks.

Her one struggle is when the feeling of overwhelm hits and she finds herself doom scrolling on social media (we’ve all been there haven’t we?).

Steph’s story is a perfect reminder that starting a side hustle isn’t about having loads of spare time— it’s about making the most of the time you have. It’s about finding something that lights you up and reconnects you with who you are. Here are my five key takeaways from Steph’s story that you could use to help you find more time for your side hustle.

  • Map Out Your Time - Use a day-by-day, hour-by-hour planner to get a clear view of when you actually have time. It often reveals small pockets of opportunity you didn’t realise were there. For me, this is the magic of time blocking, which is my favourite time managment strategy.

  • Use a Weekly To-Do List - Refreshing a to-do list every Monday with both urgent and non-urgent tasks helps you stay focused and prevents overwhelm. Aim to complete just 2–3 tasks a day to keep things manageable.

  • Make Use of Small Moments - Even a few minutes here and there, like when the kettle’s boiling, can be used for quick wins. Use those gaps instead of scrolling social media to tick off small tasks.

  • Adapt Your Week to Fit Your Life - Every week looks different. Planning ahead based on your specific commitments each week helps you to be flexible while still making progress.

  • Include Downtime in Your Schedule - Rest and relaxation is just as important as side hustle time. Scheduling time with friends and family and for self-care helps keep you motivated and avoids burnout.
