One Secret to Beating Procrastination

Fed up of wasting time procrastinating? Stay tuned for one way to tackle it.

Do you often find yourself struggling to move forward with your side hustle as you’re not happy with what you’ve created. Not confident enough to put it out into the world as it isn’t good enough - or a least you don’t think it it? Instead, you get stuck. You change it. You change it back. You tweak it. You tweak it some more. Sound familiar? Don’t worry, it happens to all of us.

Want to know the solution? You need to get comfortable doing B minus work.

Let me tell you about something that happened recently. I was talking to a friend who is looking for some extra work. She was planning to publish a post on social media advertising her servicees. She’d actually written out the post already, but hadn’t published it as she wasn’t entirely happy with the contents. She’d spent time crafting the post and then rewriting it and still it sat there, unpublished. And still she didn’t have any extra work.

She wasn’t sure that it was good enough to get her the result she wanted. The trouble is, she was never going to get the result she wanted if she didn’t publish the post. And that was the advice that I gave her. Put it out into the world as it is and see what happens. What’s the worst that can happen? No one responds and she doesn’t get any extra work. She can just have another go in a week or two.

This is B minus work. You’re not going to be happy with every single piece of content or product you create. I’m not saying that you should be selling shoddy goods, but just remember that things don’t have to be perfect. In fact, if you aim for perfect you’ll get very little done.

Perfectionism and procrastination are bedfellows you see. Two sides of the same coin. If you aim for perfection you’ll end up procrastinating every time. And as you know, procrastination is the enemy of productivity. To succeed at your side hustle you need to be productive. To create products, lead magnets, social media posts. You won’t get it right first time, second time or even third time. It will be a journey. At some point you’ll look back and be embarassed about what you put out into the world when you were just starting, but you’ve got to put out that embarassing creation into the world in order to begin your journey.

Here’s my challenge for you

Write out a list of the things you’re going to create over the next month and make a commitment to sending it out into the world even if you’re not 100% happy with it. 70% will do. Once you’ve shared it, stand back and watch the results. It will be okay. I promise you.

Tell me in the comments what B minus work you’re going to do this month in order to move forward in your side hustle
